A Stroll after the Storm

For weeks now we have all been forced to spend many hours indoors, watching the weather channel and waiting for another hurricane to wreck its havoc on South Florida.

Many have had to rearrange schedules, including making adjustments regarding work, school and other social activities. It is for this reason that this month’s column is dedicated to enjoying the outdoors with your loved one. There are so many beautiful outdoor areas that are perfect for a leisurely stroll. Unfortunately, as a result of the hurricanes much of the surrounding areas have suffered damage, including public and private landscape. However, the beauty lay in the fact that these areas will, with time, re-grow and flourish back to the gorgeous surroundings that they provide for South Florida.

Below is a partial list of local parks in both Delray and Boca Raton. Be sure to call or visit their respective websites beforehand to confirm park hours and rules. Each park offers varying features and activities for people of all ages. You can visit the new pool or play a game of tennis at the lighted courts in Pompey Park. If you are a sports fanatic, visit the Miller Park which is known as a great sports park. Veterans Park is a great facility for a number of outdoor activities and also a wonderful location for an outdoor reception. Sand Pine Nature Trail at Sugar Sand Park leads through parts of the endangered Florida Scrub. Also located at Sugar Sand Park is the Slash Pine Nature Trail which leads through Florida’s Scrubby Pine Flatwoods. The Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens provide for a great walk through pine forests, nature trails and around their beautiful lakes. A walk together does not necessarily have to be at a local park or on a nature hike. You can also enjoy a walk together down Atlantic Avenue, window shopping, talking and even breaking for a bite of food.
